Kips Bay Medical was founded in 2007 by its C.E.O. and Chairman Manny Villafaña, to develop and bring to market innovative therapies for the cardiac surgeon. Over the next few years, the Company focused on collecting the requisite pre-clinical science in order to conduct the first-in-man experience with the eSVS Mesh – an extravascular nitinol mesh prosthesis designed to maintain long-term saphenous vein graft patency in patients undergoing CABG procedures
Subsequently, the Company sponsored and successfully performed a 90 patient multi-center clinical study outside the US to primarily demonstrate the safety of the eSVS Mesh device when used in CABG surgery. As a result, the eSVS Mesh received CE Mark approval in May of 2010 and efforts to commercialize the device started immediately. Since the first-in-man experience, the eSVS Mesh device has been successfully implanted in over 400 patients in multiple cardiovascular centers outside the US.
